DIAMANTE
Diamante has been a cherished member of the ACOF community since October 2018. Having been born inside the walls of a prison, his journey proves that one’s beginnings do not define their potential to become an exceptional member of society. Born in the 1980s in Texas, Diamante’s personality is as vibrant and larger-than-life as the state he hails from. His formative years were shaped by the wisdom of his great aunt and uncle, whose lessons on morality and standards continue to guide him today.
After three decades in Texas, Diamante embraced a new chapter by relocating to Los Angeles. He now dedicates his efforts to a transitional living site, focusing on securing permanent housing for the LGBTQIA+ homeless population. His journey from homelessness to activism is marked by significant milestones, including receiving keys to his own apartment, serving as an LA County Commissioner for three years, and navigating a global pandemic.
Diamante’s gratitude is boundless. He finds joy and comfort in returning home to his cat T’challa, named after the Marvel superhero Black Panther. T’challa, now all grown up, is a symbol of his personal growth and resilience. Diamante acknowledges that his success is not just due to his own efforts but also the unwavering support of the ACOF community. Weekly therapy sessions, the guidance of his onsite case worker, and the dedication of interns, despite their rotation, have provided him with unbiased and non-judgmental support crucial to his well-being.
As Diamante puts it, “Today gratitude is the attitude; it is pretty much illegal to be homeless now, but with my ACOF community, that fear, anxiety, and utter nightmare no longer lives here.” He reflects with deep appreciation on how far he has come and remains committed to his personal development and the broader cause of activism.
