NeighborWorks
NeighborWorks® CHARTERED MEMBER
A Community of Friends is part of the NeighborWorks network, an affiliation of nonprofit organizations located in every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The NeighborWorks network was founded and is supported by NeighborWorks America, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives, and strengthen their communities.
NeighborWorks America is a national nonpartisan, nonprofit organization established by Congress. For more than 35 years, NeighborWorks has helped people live in affordable homes – whether through long-term, sustainable homeownership or high-quality affordable rental housing – and strengthen their communities. NeighborWorks does this by directly supporting an extensive network of nonprofit organizations with technical assistance and grants and awarding credentials to housing and community development professionals. Members of the NeighborWorks network offer homeownership and financial education, directly develop and manage affordable housing, and provide access to sustainable mortgages and other loans.
Gold Seal of Transparency
SEAL OF TRANSPARENCY
A Community of Friends (ACOF) is thrilled to be recognized with the Gold Seal of Transparency from GuideStar, the world’s largest database of nonprofit organizations. Less than five percent of nonprofits registered with GuideStar are recognized with a Gold Seal. A Gold Seal status is the leading symbol of non-profit transparency and accountability.
ACOF is dedicated to providing current and potential donors with accurate and in-depth knowledge about the many ways we are responsibly advancing our mission and vision with all donations we receive. Our mission is to end homelessness through the provision of quality permanent supportive housing for people with mental illness.
We are committed to supporting our tenants and managing our buildings from the moment a project is conceived until it is fully occupied, providing affordable housing with onsite supportive services. Utilizing the Housing First model, we ensure that tenants have immediate access to housing without preconditions, coupled with the comprehensive support necessary to remain stable in housing. Our work is built on three pillars: Housing Production, Supportive Services, and Property Management.
GuideStar provides a Seal rating on all 1.8 million IRS-registered nonprofit organizations. The goal is to provide as much information as they can so that a donor can make his or her own determination of where to donate money.
Pet Wellness Clinic
PET WELLNESS CLINIC
Starting in May 2023, thanks to generous grant funding, a total of five pet wellness clinics and one specialized Spay/Neuter clinic at ACOF buildings in Boyle Heights, Pacoima, North Hills, South Los Angeles, and on August 5, 2024, ACOF hosted a Pet Wellness Clinic at Amistad Apartments in Lincoln Heights.
These events, conducted in collaboration with betterTogether Forever and the Latino Alliance for Animal Care Coalition, delivered services including vaccinations, flea treatments, nail trimming, deworming, microchipping, medically necessary grooming, and emergency care.
In addition to providing essential animal health services, we also distributed pet food and toys, and provided pet owners with invaluable information and resources about animal care and the importance of microchipping, spaying, and neutering.
