Avila Family

Meet the Avila Family, tenants at Amistad Apartments since 2017, whose children love participating in ACOF’s Family and Children’s Services programs. Parents Ana and Juan tell us how they appreciate having a safe and engaging space for their children Angel, Ava, Bella, Nancy and Yahweh to focus on schoolwork and explore creative projects.

“I do one-on-one tutoring for math.” explains Angel, who says the extra time spent in the after-school program has helped him gain a better grasp on the subject. His sister, Ava says that the program has improved her daily life since moving to Amistad Apartments, as completing her homework in the program allows her to focus on relaxing when she’s home.

“What surprised me the most is that they are helping me prepare for college,” Ava says. “The tutors help me understand more subjects and help me to think about what I need to do to get into a university.” Ava is now excited about the possibilities of going to college.
